As reggae music continues to cross over into the mainstream market, reggae artists face strict competition and must fight to make a name for themselves in the music industry. A DJ turned Reggae artist known as
Rempage welcomes the challenges that lie ahead as he is confident that his style and talent will propel him into superstardom.
Islandflave: Tell me about yourself? Rempage: I was born in Portmore, Jamaica then I moved to the Bahamas then I came to Miami where I met my manager Chuck B.
Islandflave.com: Do you live in Miami now? Rempage: Miami is my town. I know a lot of people here and I do a lot of work here.
IIslandflave: How did you get the name Rempage? Rempage I started out designing web sites and there are pages called webpages, I wanted to come up with a name that links to my music. Rempage. I’ve used the name for about 7 or 8 years.
Islandflave: What inspired you to become a reggae artist? Rempage: I wouldn’t say that it was any artist, I would more say it’s the beat. Being a record DJ, to make music you know about beats.
IslandFlave: How long have you been performing? Rempage: My first show was in Jamaica and I have been performing for 5 years.
Islandflave: How would you describe your style of music? Rempage: It’s a combination of many different styles that I put together in my own unique flavor.
Islandflave: Who are some of your musical influences? Rempage: My favorite artist is Mad Cobra. I started out doing my music as “Bad Mon” music that Mad Cobra is. I idolize Cobra, I respect all of the bigger artist in the game and I want to big up my man Sizzla.
Islandflave: What are some of the Challenges you’ve faced as an upcoming artist? Rempage: My biggest obstacle is the hateration. I get a lot of hatin’ and you have people dem two faced.
Islandflave: Have people supported your decision to pursue a career in entertainment? Rempage: Nobody ever support an artist when you’re just starting out!
Islandflave: What did you do before you go into the music industry? Rempage: I designed webpages.
Islandflave: What makes you different from other aspiring artists? Rempage: My style is a hardcore reggae dancehall with the capability to cross over.
Islandflave: What do you hope to accomplish in the entertainment industry? Rempage: I want to run Jamaica! When my label busts, my record label Knox entertainment, I want to put out a record every month meaning I’m running Reggae music.
Islandflave: Whom would you most like to work with? Rempage: It’s hard to say. There are a lot of artists that I respect and idolize but I would say Bounty Killa and Mad Cobra.
