St. Maarten is one of five island areas of the Netherlands Antilles. The colors of the St Martin flag are the same found on the flag of the Netherlands.

The coat of arms displays a courthouse, a bouquet of yellow sage, and a silhouette of the monument representing friendship between the Dutch and the French .

The crest is formed by a yellow disc which represents the sun, and a gray silhouette of a pelican in flight. The St Martin flag has the Latin motto, "Semper Progrediens" which means "Always Progressing".
